Minute for Stewardship
Minute for Stewardship - Pono Wong
Stewardship is defined as "the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving."
My personal journey within this church community has shown me exactly what that means in practice.
Thirty years ago, it was the preschool that first attracted my family to visit. At the time, our Sundays were often spent bicycling on the Bronx River Parkway or working on building our house.
From our very first visit, we were welcomed by Barb Loizeaux and introduced to the church family.
We soon began participating in the many wonderful programs and events that happen here, including the Rummage sale, Men’s Breakfast, and Sunday School.
My involvement deepened when I was nominated to join the session. This opportunity prompted me to officially join the church; despite growing up in the Congregational church, I had never joined due to being a "rebellious teenager."
Over the years, I've had many wonderful and meaningful experiences. I participated in the Men's Breakfast and eventually became the cook. I went on Appalachian Service Project (ASP) trips with my two sons. I was even given the chance to sing in the choir.
Most recently, the support my family and I received from this congregation during difficult times was overwhelming and truly helped us through.
Based on all of my experiences at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, I strongly feel that this church is a community worth caring for and preserving—it is a place that exemplifies the need for stewards.
